About the Foundation
A foundation for Christian democracy in South Africa
The Christian Democracy Foundation of South Africa (CDFSA) works to develop a clear Christian democratic framework for our country. Its work is grounded in a Christian understanding of human dignity, justice, freedom, responsibility and the common good.
Our purpose
The Foundation seeks to strengthen and unite the Christian voice in South African public life. It equips Christians, churches and leaders to engage seriously with the challenges facing the country.
This work is wider than elections or party politics. We want to encourage responsible Christian citizenship and meaningful participation in building a just and democratic society.
What we do
CDFSA is a research and policy platform. We turn Christian democratic thought into practical ideas for government, the economy, education and social justice. Our approach respects individual dignity and freedom, while taking seriously the duties we owe one another.
Research
We study the Christian democratic tradition and ask how its ideas apply to public life in South Africa.
Policy development
We apply Christian democratic thought to questions of government, the economy, education and social justice.
Leadership formation
We help Christians and other leaders approach the country's challenges with knowledge, judgement and a spirit of service.
Civic engagement
We make the Christian democratic case in public through open debate and democratic participation.
The Foundation responds to the influence of materialism, individualism and secular humanism in public life. We do not retreat from a plural society. We take part in it openly and democratically, making the case for Christian ideas through research, debate and public engagement.
The South Africa we seek
We want a South Africa where every person's dignity is protected and families and communities have room to thrive. Freedom should carry responsibility, opportunity should be open to more people, and public leaders should understand their office as service to the common good.
